Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the difference between palliative care and end-of-life care?

Palliative care focuses on comfort, symptom management, and quality of life for individuals with a life-limiting illness, often months or even years before the end of life.
End-of-life care is more specific to the final months, weeks, or days. Both aim to provide comfort, dignity, and emotional support, and our team can assist at any stage.

Can someone choose to stay at home for end-of-life care?

Yes. Many individuals prefer the comfort and familiarity of home during their final stages of life. We provide in-home support that promotes peace, dignity, and connection, and we collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure safety and comfort.

What does a Death Doula do?

A certified Death Doula provides emotional, spiritual, and practical support to individuals and families before, during, and immediately after death. This can include guiding difficult conversations, offering comfort and presence, assisting with rituals or legacy projects, helping families prepare, supporting vigils, and ensuring wishes and values are honoured. Doulas do not replace medical teams, they complement them with holistic, compassionate care.

What is an Advance Care Plan, and can you help us create one?

An Advance Care Plan outlines a person’s wishes for care, comfort, and decision-making as they approach the end of life. It may include preferred treatments, rituals, cultural or spiritual practices, and who they want involved.
Yes, our certified Death Doula can help create or review these plans so families feel clear and supported.

Do you provide medical care or nursing?

Not at this time. We offer non-medical palliative support, emotional care, companionship, and comfort measures. We work alongside hospice teams, nurses, and physicians to ensure your loved one is as comfortable and supported as possible.

How often can visits occur?

We offer flexible scheduling depending on needs; hourly visits, extended shifts, overnight presence, or regular weekly support. Vigil support during the final hours can also be arranged.
